'Will become animals in next birth': Madhya Pradesh BJP MLA warns voters 'influenced' by money, liquor and gifts

NEW DELHI: BJP MLA and former Madhya Pradesh minister Usha Thakur made an accusation that some individuals cast their votes based on money, alcohol and presents, stating that such individuals who compromise democracy will face reincarnation as various animals.
She claimed that beneficiaries receive thousands of rupees through various BJP government initiatives, according to statements quoted by news agency PTI. She expressed disappointment that despite these benefits, votes are being exchanged for modest sums of 1,000-500 rupees, whilst urging citizens to safeguard democracy. "Thousands of rupees come into the accounts of every beneficiary through so many schemes of the BJP government, like Ladli Behna Yojana and Kisan Samman Nidhi. Even after that, if votes are sold for 1,000-500 (rupees), then it is a matter of shame for humans," she said
Addressing ballot confidentiality, Thakur reminded people of divine oversight, advising them to maintain integrity whilst voting. She added, "Those who became neutral after taking money, saree, glass, and liquor, write it down in your diary that they are definitely going to become camels, sheep, goats, dogs and cats in the next birth. Those who will sell democracy are going to become these only. Write this down. I have a direct conversation with God, believe me."

Thakur, known for similar previous proclamations, emphasised that support should exclusively go to the BJP, which she claimed serves national, religious and cultural interests.
When questioned about her statements, Thakur told PTI her aim was to educate rural voters. "Democracy is our life. The government runs many schemes to improve the lives of people as per the provisions of the Constitution. It serves the public all 12 months of the year. In such a situation, if a person sells his vote for money, liquor or other material in any situation during elections, then it is an unpardonable crime," the MLA said sharing her opinion.
She defended her position by stating that future incarnations depend on present actions, suggesting unfavourable deeds prevent human rebirth.
MP Congress spokesperson Mrinal Pant observed that Thakur's remarks reflect both "conservative thinking" and internal BJP leadership conflicts in Mhow.
