Haryana booze seized, excise dept haul Rs 2cr
Panaji: The department of excise has said that it has seized nearly 700 cases of foreign-made liquor being smuggled into Goa from Haryana without proper documentation for valid authorities.
The department intercepted the consignment, impounded the truck, and initiated legal proceedings under the provisions of the Goa Excise Duty Act and Rules against the offenders.
The department said that the premium foreign liquor was being transported into the state without valid permits and in violation of the prevailing excise laws.
The liquor was concealed inside the container truck, with an estimated market value exceeding Rs 2.5 crore.
The alcohol was to be delivered to a warehouse at Pilerne, owned by a Haryana-based firm.
The department’s officials said that an investigation is under way but also confirmed that the sub-inspector who intercepted the consignment was transferred.
The truck driver hails from Uttar Pradesh, said department officials.
