Over the past decade, technology has rapidly advanced—from manual processes to digital systems, and now to AI (Artificial Intelligence), which is transforming the digital world to make life simpler and more efficient. AI is already embedded in our daily lives, helping us edit photos, correct grammar, conduct research, answer customer queries, and recommend songs, videos, and products. From smart TVs and refrigerators to vacuum cleaners, watches, and phones, AI-enabled devices perform tasks beyond imagination, seamlessly integrating into our routines.

The potential of AI seems limitless as it continues to grow rapidly. One of the most debated areas today is AI in art. While many argue that art should preserve the human touch to retain its personal essence, others welcome the creative possibilities AI unlocks. Art has continuously evolved—from traditional portraits to reel cameras, from physical photos to digital cinema, and now to AI-generated creations.

In a groundbreaking achievement, a Kannada cinema team created the first fully AI-generated feature film. Every shot, song, and voiceover was generated by feeding prompts into various AI programs, with everything edited together afterwards. The opening credits list roles like Art Director AI, Cinematographer AI, Stunts AI, and more. No cameras or human actors were involved—the only human contributions were the story, screenplay, lyrics, and final editing. This project stretches the boundaries of AI’s potential in filmmaking.

The story revolves around Nutan, a singer who meets Ashwini during a trip to Manali. Their romance unfolds amid family drama, friendships, and Nutan’s musical journey—marked by love, heartbreak, and emotional ups and downs. However, the film focuses more on showcasing AI-generated filmmaking than on deep storytelling.

Due to current technical limitations—especially with lip-syncing—dialogue is minimal, and nearly 40 minutes of the film rely on songs to move the story forward. While the first half feels disjointed and hard to engage with, the second half becomes slightly more compelling.

Was the viewing experience satisfying? Not quite. It remains an experimental effort. The dialogue lacks tonal variation across characters, and the visuals feel neither realistic nor stylistically aligned with traditional animation. Overall, it’s a challenging watch as a full-length feature.

That said, Love You marks a pioneering step in AI-generated feature film in Kannada. While AI tools have already seen success in short stories and social media content—and films like Veera Chandrahasa have used AI in parts recently—creating a full-length film demands a strong story and more advanced technology. As these tools evolve, this could become a new creative direction. For now, Nutan (AI Developer and Editor) and director Narasimhamurthy have taken the bold first step.
