Exclusive: Sumeet Raghvan on his Wagle Ki Duniya role Rajesh being able to see the future; says ‘He is a middle-class common man and can’t depend on this power forever’
Sumeet Raghvan, who portrays Rajesh Wagle in Wagle Ki Duniya, recently opened up about his character’s newfound ability to see the future. In an exclusive interview with Times of India TV, he shared insights into how Rajesh grapples with this extraordinary power and the moral dilemmas it brings.
Rajesh’s Initial Reaction to His Power
When Rajesh first starts experiencing visions, he is utterly confused. “Initially, Rajesh has no idea where these visions are coming from or why he’s experiencing them,” says Sumeet. “He doesn’t immediately realize that the power bank he picked up is showing him glimpses of the future. So at first, he’s completely bewildered; he just doesn’t understand what’s happening to him. Slowly, as he starts connecting the dots, he begins to grasp the situation. Initially, he sees it as a gift, but over time, it starts feeling like a burden, to the extent that he even tries to get rid of the power bank. But somehow, it keeps finding its way back to him!”

Balancing Power and Responsibility
As a devoted family man, Rajesh struggles to balance using his ability to protect his loved ones while avoiding the temptation to interfere too much. “The writers have been very mindful of making sure Rajesh isn’t overly dependent on this power. That’s something I’m also keeping in mind while playing the character,” Sumeet explains. “He understands that this ability must be used very carefully. He doesn’t want to rely on it for every little thing. He only turns to it when he senses real danger—when he truly believes it’s necessary to protect someone.”
Moral Dilemmas and Lessons on Responsibility
Rajesh’s ability often leads him into difficult moral dilemmas. Sumeet reflects on how these situations serve as a lesson for the audience. “As they say, ‘With great power comes great responsibility,’ and Rajesh understands this well. He only uses his ability when he sees someone he loves in danger. But on a larger scale, the show subtly conveys a deeper message, one that I personally resonate with. Too often, people rely on luck, fate, or divine intervention, thinking, ‘Agar bhagya acha hoga toh sab theek hoga’ (If luck is on my side, things will be fine). But life doesn’t work that way. What truly matters is how you approach situations, how sincerely you put in the effort. Through Rajesh’s journey, the audience will see that one cannot always depend on external forces, be it luck or even supernatural powers. You have to act and take responsibility for your choices. That’s something I feel is an important takeaway from this track.”

Struggling with Limitations
Despite his abilities, Rajesh often finds himself facing limitations. “Yes, he does,” Sumeet confirms. “He also struggles with the fact that he can’t openly tell people about his premonitions. He tries to hide the truth, to the extent that only Vandana, his wife, knows about this power. There are times when he attempts to change the course of events, especially when the visions show impending danger. And yes, in some instances, he is able to prevent disasters. But there are moments where he is left wondering: Did I do the right thing? Should I have interfered or not?”
Serving the Greater Good and Embracing Responsibility
Beyond protecting his family, Rajesh also tries to use his ability for the greater good. However, he understands that he cannot rely on this power forever. “Rajesh is, at his core, a middle-class common man. He can’t depend on this power forever,” Sumeet emphasizes. “There will come a time when he has to let it go and return to his everyday life. And that’s where the challenge lies, for both him and the writers. If he starts relying on his ability too much, it takes away from the essence of his character. He is not a superhero, nor is he Nostradamus. He is Rajesh Wagle, an ordinary man dealing with extraordinary circumstances. And that’s what makes his journey relatable. He might have this ability for a while, but eventually, he has to go back to his regular life, relying on his instincts, wisdom, and values—just like everyone else.”

As Wagle Ki Duniya continues to explore Rajesh’s journey, fans are eager to see how he navigates the challenges of his unique ability while staying true to his values. His story serves as a reminder that, ultimately, our choices and efforts define us, not just the powers or circumstances we are given.
