Mayank N Vahia explains how Aditya L1 Mission will observe the Sun concurrently in optical, UV, and X-ray wavelengths

In anticipation of the Aditya L1 mission launch, retired Professor Mayank N Vahia from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research stated on September 2 that Aditya L1 represents the first mission of a new generation. He noted that the previous mission to the L1 point had occurred five years before Aditya L1 and highlighted that this mission would observe the Sun in optical, UV, and X-ray simultaneously. According to ISRO, Aditya L1 marks India's inaugural space-based mission for solar study. The spacecraft is destined for a halo orbit around Lagrange Point 1 (L1) in the Sun-Earth system, situated approximately 1.5 million km from Earth. L1 is a unique point where the gravitational forces of the Sun and Earth balance, making it an ideal location for satellite-based observations of solar activities and their impact on real-time space weather. Placing the satellite in a halo orbit around L1 offers the advantage of continuous solar observation without the interference of occultations or eclipses. Aditya L1 is equipped with seven payloads for comprehensive observation and research.
