Travis Kelce, a Kansas City Chiefs tight end, received a $11,255 fine from the NFL for taunting during the AFC championship game. The NFL docked Kelce's second fine of the season, following a loss of $14,069 for unsportsmanlike conduct in Week 17.
Patrick Mahomes' touchdown run resulted in Kelce getting in the face of Bills safety Damar Hamlin, leading to headbutting by Jordan Phillips in Kelce's helmet. The officials threw a 15-yard penalty on Phillips for unnecessary roughness, besides the flags. The incident earned Phillips a fine of $6,722 on Saturday.

The Kansas City Chiefs advanced to the Super Bowl as they outclass the Buffalo Bills in the meeting for the conference final in AFC. Still, star Travis Kelce was also fined by the NFL following some action in that meeting. Each Saturday, the NFL issues public accounting of game-day fines handed out for unsportsmanlike or violent conduct, studying play-by-play breakdowns of each game to settle such infractions, like that one issued on Kelce.
Kelce was penalized 11,255 dollars for unsportsmanlike conduct during the Kansas City Chiefs' 32-29 win over the Buffalo Bills in their AFC championship game. In the second quarter, quarterback Patrick Mahomes scored a touchdown, but Bills safety Damar Hamlin made a tackle on him. Despite Hamlin's attempt to avoid reacting, Bills defensive tackle Jordan Phillips head-butted Kelce, and a heated altercation ensued.
Kelce flopped backwards, resulting in Phillips getting penalized. The Chiefs accepted the penalty yardage on their extra point try, and Harrison Butker connected on that one, in addition to having sparked the series by initiating a reaction.

Roughing the passer/helmet, two fines levied against Kelce and Phillips also drew Matt Milano a $11,255 penalty for his own face mask, this one involving Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt in the final quarter. Kelce was assessed with a fine of $6,722 for unnecessary roughness, and Phillips was fined $6,722 for roughness and helmet use.
Travis Kelce was previously fined $14,069 by the NFL in Week 17 for unsportsmanlike conduct following his celebration when he broke the record for most touchdown receptions recorded by the franchise, formerly held by Tony Gonzalez.

While Kelce seemed to instigate the situation, Phillips was the one hit with the flag, proving the popular idea that it’s always the second man who gets caught. Phillips was also fined $6,722 for unnecessary roughness.
