The Boston Celtics may have to face the Orlando Magic in Game 3 of their playoff series without All-Star forward Jayson Tatum, who is listed as doubtful due to a right wrist bone bruise. Mazzulla provides update on Jayson Tatum’s status

Jayson Tatum missed Game 2—his first-ever postseason absence—after suffering the injury in Game 1 following a hard foul by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Despite finishing the game, Tatum was later seen with his wrist wrapped and sat out Wednesday’s matchup. Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla provided an update Thursday, saying, "He's dealing with a severe bone bruise. He's progressively gotten a little bit better each day."

Mazzulla added, "[Wednesday], he went through all the protocols and did everything he could possibly do, up until the last moment to try and play. Just wasn’t able to do it. But, he’ll go back at it again today, and he’s in that day-to-day process right now."

Boston Celtics’ performance without key players

Holiday, who played 36 minutes in Game 2, remains a game-time decision. The Celtics have managed well without key players this season, going 9-2 without Jayson Tatum and 14-6 without Holiday. However, both of their losses without Tatum came against Orlando.

Boston Celtics vs Orlando Magic game 2 overview

The Boston Celtics defeated the Orlando Magic 109-100 in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference first-round playoff series at TD Garden. With Jayson Tatum sidelined due to a wrist injury, Jaylen Brown stepped up, leading the Celtics with 36 points and 10 rebounds. Kristaps Porziņģis contributed a strong performance with 20 points and 10 rebounds, despite sustaining a facial injury that required stitches. The Celtics capitalized on their free-throw advantage, shooting 25 of 33 compared to the Magic's 15 of 24.
